Read the short case scenario below.
You are a full-time Human Resource Payroll Specialist for a large corporation. One of your core responsibilities in your job description is to process payroll for the Technician Department. The technicians are responsible for entering their hours daily, into the HRIS (Human Resource Information System). The technicians must have their hours for the week entered by midnight every Sunday. The technicians are trained on this process when they are hired.
Every Monday morning you reconcile the technicians payroll hours from the previous week because your deadline to submit your payroll roster to you manager is every Tuesday morning by 9:00 am. Your manager needs to have the entire Companys payroll submitted for payment to all Employees by Tuesday at midnight. The process has a tight schedule, but it works well and employees are always paid on time, as long as everyone meets their deadlines. If the technicians dont submit their hours on time, they dont get paid for those hours in that pay period.
This week, Monday morning arrives and you receive a frantic email from one of your technicians. Sally says that when she tried to enter her hours for the week on Monday morning, she lost her internet connection. Even though she knows they should be entered daily and the deadline was Sunday night at midnight, she is asking you for an extension to enter her hours because she wont have a chance to enter her weekly hours again until Monday at midnight. She wants those hours to be on her pay cheque this week. In the meantime, you realize that 4 other technicians also didnt have their hours entered on time but they didnt reach out to you. Now your deadline to submit your payroll roster to your manager could be comprised if you allow the extension.
