What is the difference between using $\backslash$ and $"""$ when making multiline strings?

There is no difference.

The $\backslash$ preserves whitespace, while the $"""$ allows you to continue writing the string on the next line.

$"""$ limits you to $79$ characters, while $\backslash$ adds a newline character.
