Rectangular hollow section (RHS, b/t =35) lifting beam is attached to I beam columns. RHS beamis loaded by force F vertically downwards from the lug with the load sequence described in figure above. The lug is fillet-welded to the RHS beam and the load is subjected to the hole of the lug via a shaft. Consider, what different failures mechanism might occur in the structure, i.e. evaluate which structural details (in the RHS beam + lug) should be analyzed in detail. The connection plates to the I beams and the shaft can be neglected in this evaluation. The material grade is S420 and the structure is used at room temperature (+20\deg C) and covered from rain.
i) List the most important details of structure that should be carefully analyzed in the ultimate limit state.
ii) Draw schematically the corresponding failure/fracture mode when they reach design limit state. The details under consideration are:
a) Lifting lug including welds but without the shaft (3 failure modes at minimum)
b) RHS beam without the connection plates to the I beams (2 failure modes at minimum)
(You can also think, which serviceability limit states are needed in design and analysis of the beam)
Note: I have added images of example work like how should the assignment will be and the Problem diagram is also attached
