Reflect using the Gibb's reflection model: In this session, we discussed our superpowers and kryptonites. People have different superpowers that can excel at, but also different kryptonite. It was very interesting that during our groups and our discussions that took place afterward with all the students, people had many different things to note for this. Superpowers like communication skills, ability to meet deadlines, great project management skills, organizing and motivating people, and stimulating challenges were stated. In addition, kryptonite, like difficulties in making decisions once it gets emotional, non-creativity, no adaptability, loss of interest in the repetition of work, etc were also noted.
It was fascinating to see that many people were trying to match some superpowers with some kryptonite to overcome the weakness that might have or even try to work with a colleague or a team of people that have as superpowers the ones that for them is kryptonite, finding in this way the balance between these too. The same feelings were almost for everyone who participated in the exercises as they realized the need to build on their superpowers but also to find a way to overcome their weaknesses, each one in different ways.
Some of the kryptonite mentioned in the class look like conflicts with the superpowers that some people had, like empathy and the emotional aspects in making decisions when it comes to people.
The last exercise relates to identifying and discussing our professional fears and how this relates to our core beliefs. It was seen that people have different fears in doing their job, and each person is always trying to find a way to overcome their fears either by passing the job to others, or by avoiding doing the job or in the best cases trying to ask help from others to overcome their fears. Something that I did not like, is that since this issue is too personal and sometimes people do not want to show their fear and share it, it can damage their work and themselves, and usually they cannot handle it successfully.
What I have learned from this, is that people must be perceptive and resilient and unlock their thinking about themselves, work out their fears and clarify what they want to achieve, and dont be afraid to ask for help if needed.
I believe that people must always try to improve themselves and their superpowers but at the same time try to improve their weak parts, using practices and methods that can help them develop those skills and also asking for help from people they trust, and they know that can support them successfully.
