The importance of media literacy in our interconnected world is critical to a global citizen. Knowing how media is used to influence us is fundamental to understanding how the world works the way it does, and why. In this reflection assignment, you are being asked to consider how dominant culture impacts your actions through media and what you can do about it
Instructions:
Answer all of the following questions:
Recount an action you have taken that directly results from messages you encountered in the mediait could be from a movie, a series, advertising, a news cast or a social media post.
Describe the media content or message that motivated you to act
Critique that action using media literacy:
Who controlled or produced the media content that influenced you?
What was the agenda behind that content?
Would you do the same again, now that you have thought about the agenda of the media source that inspired your action?

You can record your reflection and upload the audio file. It should be to minutes long. Do not exceed minutes.
You can answer the questions in a graphic or artistic representation, as long as the images are accompanied by written or recorded explanations that address the criteria of the rubric. The design should fit on one page, and recorded explanations should not exceed minutes in total.

If your action was something you dont regret, can you say that you were fully aware of the power of media on you, at the time?
Having reflected on the influence of media on you, does that make you want to resist that influence? Why or why not?
Remember, media disproportionately reflects dominant culture and values. These have a powerful impact on how you see yourself and what you think is importantwhether you are aware of it nor not! Awareness is the first objective of critical media literacy.
