For example, the problem might say how someone claims that a mean is less than/more than/ or even equal to a certain value. Then I know that I have a hypothesis to test. I know that I have a confidence interval problem when the question is trying to estimate the value of an unknown population parameter. Sometimes it will make it is easy and even state that it is looking for a confidence interval in the problem but that is not always the case. Best indication is that it will ask for a mean estimate. I can identify if the question is proportion when the question is qualitative data. It will usually pose a question that is categorical. Sometimes it will also even say proportion in the question but that is also not always the case. I can find if it is involving a mean if it is quantitative data. It will usually involve means and standard deviations
