DQ2 2-1. Based on the ideas described in the trait approach, do you think Pat is looking for the right characteristics in the people he hires? Based on the ideas described in the trait approach, I think Pat is looking for the right characteristics in the people he hires. He looks for applicants that are confident, have strong interpersonal skills and take initiative which are qualities anyone would want in a leader and employee. Pat has also taken into account the fact that they will be working in a bank which requires a certain level of confidentiality along with strong analytical and technical skills. He makes sure the applicants show a good work ethic and commitment and willingness to do their jobs no matter what . One should also take into consideration that Pat has been doing recruitment for more than 10 years and has a grasp as to what the bank might need. 2-2. Could it be that the retention problem raised by upper management is unrelated to Pat's recruitment criteria? I believe that Pat is looking for the right characteristics with the people he hires. It could definitely be something unrelated to his recruitment criteria. Who they hire cannot possibly be the only reason why 25% of new hires have left. Upper management should look into other areas of their organization and see if there may be other causes to their retention problem. They could look into compensation, benefits, work environment or even sit down and have exit interviews to truly get insight on why the new hire has left. 2-3. If you were Pat, would you change your approach to recruiting? I dont believe there is an issue with Pat's recruitment criteria and believe there may be other causes to the retention problems. This being said, I would make sure to make it a point during the interview process to completely inform the applicants of what the job entails. This is to prevent any new hires from having the wrong idea and therefore leaving. I would follow up with the new hires throughout their first couple of months to make sure everything is running smoothly. I would meet with upper management and see if the company can provide any incentives to keep our employees long term
