Most of the group were confederates instructed to give wrong answers on some trials to see if the real participant would conform. The experiment shows how people tend to go along with the group even if they know it's wrong, especially when most confederates give the same incorrect answer, making the participant feel comfortable to agree. About 75% of participants conformed at least once, showing how strong social pressure can influence decisions and cause doubt in one's own judgment. Most followed because they wanted to fit in and avoid standing out or being judged, highlighting how social pressure and the desire for acceptance shape human behavior, even today. The Milgram experiment or "Obedience to Authority" was a study on obedience carried out by Stanley Milgram the 1960s. In the experiment, participants were told they were part of a learning study and were assigned the role of "teacher." They were instructed to give electric shocks to a "learner" (who was actually an actor) whenever they answered incorrectly, with the shocks getting stronger each time. Many participants kept administering shocks even when they thought they were hurting the person, simply because an authority figure told them to. This showed that people are often willing to follow orders and do harmful things when influenced by authority and the situation they're in.
