reply to the disscussion post: NO AI
"Word problems for me have been up and down. There are times when I do understand the question, and I am able to solve it confidently. But others, I can get confused, especially when the wording is tricky or has more than one step. I think that is the most common error in why we can get math problems wrong is not reading the word problem correctly. This is crucial to get right, especially in healthcare scenarios when it comes to medications or IV fluid calculations.
I would not say I'm completely comfortable with word problems yet, but I don't feel lost either. For me, it is just reading each part of the word problem carefully. I have practiced this by breaking down each sentence, or where each number falls in the word problem, and analyzing what the problem is asking for. Watching videos for me is also helpful, as I am a big visual learner. The same as I have done with other problems, practicing them over and over has helped me feel more prepared.
Another thing I have noticed is that I tend to second-guess myself, even when I have done the math right and have taken the correct steps or followed the formula provided. I have tried not to do that, but instead just double-check the problem and trust my process. I've learned that making mistakes is part of learning. If you get a problem wrong, just double-check what went wrong. The more we fix mistakes and practice more, the more confident we become in solving word problems and math problems in general."
