There are many ways where you use a system of two lines and it's very useful in the real world. We use them without noticing it for example when you are trying to stay in budget. You might have two different saving one for emergency and another for a car payment. The system that best describes this example is problem one because lets say you have your savings for an emergency and you get some money out the equation that relates to it is 3x+y=7 because its decreasing. You make some extra cash and put it towards you car payment you would use the second equation being -2x+5y=18 because its increasing.
