Thread: Post Author: September 22, 2020 7:43 PM Published barbie barble Jennifer Hall Posted Date: Status: 1. Why was Barbie popular in both France and the Middle East? Many felt that girls/ children in France and the Middle East should be able to play with dolls just as they do in the United States and with similar appearances as Barbie. 2. Should Muslim countries ban Barbie? Why or why not? I do not believe they should ban Barbie because I think children should have the opportunity to see the dolls as in their own culture and see dolls of other cultures and styles. 3. Why do you think Fulla was far more successful than Sara or Razanne? Fulla seemed to be a more "open-minded brand of dolls compared to Sara and Razanne. Sara has darker hair and darker skin, and wears the traditional floor-length chador, has no boyfriend and her brother doll Dara is dressed in the coat and turban of a Muslim cleric or mullah. Most people depicted the Sara doll as "fat and ugly." The Razanne doll was aimed particularly to Muslim Americans, has the body of a preteen, comes in the different types, wears modest clothing, and her aspirations are those of a modern Muslim woman, The Fulla doll however, is similarly shaped to Barbie but with a more modest bosom, her outside wear keeps her fully covered, Fulla is supported by television commercials that show her praying, reading a book, or baking. The fulla doll also has a lot of related products such as bicycles, cereal. chewing gum, and stationary. Because the Fulla doll is some what more similar to Barbie it makes it a more selling and popular doll. 4. In your opinion, will these more diverse Barbie dolls be more relevant to global consumers? I do believe that having more diverse dolls is more appealing and relevant to global consumers. I think it is very important for children to understand that we live in a very diverse world that has many different styles, cultures, religions, backgrounds, and beliefs. Children should understand from a young age that hair color, eye color, skin color, the way someone dresses, the activities someone may participate in, etc, does not make a person a bad person and it is perfectly ok to be different.
