Reply to this post in 100 words or more. If I were to be tasked with hiring a custodian for our athletic facility, I would want to assemble a few people to help me with my search. I might ask two or three head coaches to sit in on the interviews with me. Even though we are just hiring a custodian to essentially clean things and tidy up, we need to find someone who is trustworthy and knows how to properly tend to our different floor and playing surfaces that our athletics facility houses. On top of that, they should have some background with athletic facilities maintenance prior. This is a small job that not most think of, but having a good custodian can go a long way as it relates to the preservation of our playing surfaces and equipment. I would ask questions about their prior work experience, previous companies they have worked for, and ask job specific questions like what they would use to clean a basketball court. Finally, I'd ask why they are interested in joining our staff and what they can bring to our athletic department. If I was given an Activities Administrative Assistant, I would first need to assess my job, and determine what I could pass on for someone else to handle. It would also be helpful for me to ask my coaches what areas they need more help in too, and I can use that information to sculpt a new job. I'll put together a list of job duties/responsibilities, which will lead to a job posting. I would post the job on our school's athletic website, Indeed, LinkedIn, and send it to other athletic directors that I have close connections with so they can give me recommendations. My list of qualifications would include (but is not limited to): Bachelor's degree in sport management, administration, or a related field Has 2-3 years prior experience working in administration, sports, or a related field Has the ability to work weekends and longer hours CPR/first aid certified or can obtain certification within 2 months of hiring Ability to complete administrative forms and communicate with MSHSAA, NCAA, NAIA, and our conference Ability to communicate with athletic staff including coaches & other schools as well Personality traits would include: passionate about helping others, specifically athletes; good communicator or personable; honest and has integrity; can work with others/be a team player
