1. Developmental programs are important to Wegmans because they allow them to not only invest in their community, but also allow themselves. These investments helped youth in their community to pursue a higher education and save over 1 million dollars in training/recruitment costs. Researchers have found that organizations have been seeing an increasing benefit within their own company when they invest in their local communities (Nodoushani et al., 2016). This is related to the human capital theory, which states that when an individual is invested in, they will be have a positive influence on themselves, their organization, and their community. Additionally, these invested individuals often have better health and end up with specialized skills and abilities (Nodoushani et al., 2016).

2. Some of the main objectives of Wegmans development programs were to decrease the turnover rate while ensuring that they would have a source of employees in the future. Aguinis (2019), states that development plan objectives are supposed to improve and sustain employee performance, while preparing for future employees to come. I believe that Wegmans objectives directly correlate to how objectives are describes in the course text (Aguinis, 2019). Wegmans was also attempting to enrich their employees work experience by investing in them by giving them various support tools. In turn, these support tools later benefitted Wegmans as a whole by enriching the community around them and enriching their employees.

3. Some of the main activities of Wegmans development programs were to uplift and support youth while they were in school by providing paid employment, academic support, and soft skills training. These activities helped to greatly increase the likelihood of these individuals completing high school and applying for a secondary education. After these activities were achieved, the turnover rate greatly decreased and the level of employment increased. This may be related to the social exchange theory, which researches state is a relationship between two parties is dependent on the cost-benefit ratio between the two (Rodrigues et al., 2020). Essentially because Wegmans was able to heavily invest in their community, the community continued to support Wegmans and provided more longevity in their employment.

4. I believe that developmental programs are important from a Christian worldview perspective. As Christians we are supposed to love each other and build each other up. Ephesians 4:29 (New International Bible, 1978/2011), refers to this exactly when Paul instructs us to let no corrupting speech comes from out mouths, but to give grace and build one another up. Taking this a step further, building up should not only be done through speech, but by actions. This can help Christian leaders within organizations to help equip employees to be the best versions of themselves and become even more motivated. Additionally, this could also be a great way to minister to people in the workplace.
