Epilepsy is a common perceptual issue. Causes and contributing factors can vary depending on the root cause of the seizure disorder. Seizures happen due to changes in the damaged brain cells with disrupted electrical activity (Cleveland Clinic, 2025). This can be a congenital disorder. Seizures happen for other reasons that are common, such as low blood sugar levels, alcohol withdrawal, and heat exhaustion. There are also multiple different types of seizures absent, myoclonic, atonic, clonic, Focal and complex ( Cleveland Clinic, 2025).

Health promotion and prevention for seizures of known origin can be determined by following protocols and signs and symptoms leading up to seizures. For example, alcoholics in theETOH withdrawal phase need to be knowledgeable and properly observed during withdrawals. For patients that have a seizure disorder unrelated to other conditions, testing needs to be done such as EEG and MRI to find if the seizures are random or linked to a particular disorder or chronic disease process. Seizures can be caused by a triggered, identifying ones triggers can aide as their prevention method. People experiencing abnormal seizure activity can take an antiepileptic drug such as Keppra and phenobarbital to help decrease the chances of having seizures.
