**This research assignment will help you prepare for your Writing for Change Letter**

Research assignment due date: Friday, March 22 @ noon (12:00PM EST)

TASK: Consider a current problem related to your program of study. This problem should be specific

and focused. It does not have to be 'solvable,' but it should be something for which you can suggest

at least one reasonable change to improve the problem. Your goal for this assignment is to learn

about your selected issue that you will write about in your upcoming 'Writing for Change' letter. You

can determine a topic by considering:

an issue you have discussed in one of your program classes,

an issue discussed in one of your program textbooks,

an issue identified by the Seneca LibGuides for your specific program, or

the list of suggested hot topics on Blackboard under our Assignments tab.

Your first step in the writing process is gathering source material. For this research assignment, you

will compile three sources. This activity will provide you with foundational research for your upcoming

letter.

To finish this assignment, you must complete the following steps:

1. Identify your research focus (a problem related to your current program of study) and your

recipient (the person you believe is most able to make a real change regarding your selected

problemit must be a real person!) below.

2. Research THREE sources: ONE source must provide you with information about your letter's

recipient. TWO additional sources related to your selected issue. All sources must be reliable

and current (5 years old or newer).

3. Read the material. Annotate (highlight, underline, make notes) the main points as you read.

Make notes in a separate Word document. Ensure these sources will help you learn about

your topic and support your potential claims.

4. Complete one research worksheet per source
