Research topic : BEST PRACTICES WHILE ADOPTING HYBRID PROJECT MANAGEMENT IN THE ENGINEERING SECTOR

INTRODUCTION

Hybrid project is becoming a popular trend in the engineering sector because it utilizes both traditional and agile practices. While traditional waterfall approach works best for large projects, agile works best for smaller projects. So most organizations are trying to adopt into hybrid methodology since they typically deal with both small and large projects. There are several challenges encounter during the adoption of a new methodology. This study will help identify the best practices to follow during adoption and after adapting into the new methodology.

The purpose of this study will be addressed in greater detail later in this section. After outlining the problem and providing the necessary evidence to support the necessity and justification for the study's conduct, the primary research topic will be articulated and discussed in detail. The most essential research objectives for responding to the study issue will be given in order of importance to the investigation. In order to achieve these objectives and provide a solution to the research issue, the study technique will be outlined. Finally, the sequence in which the chapters will be presented, as well as a brief synopsis of each chapter, will be provided to the reader.

Statement of the Problem

There is a problem with adopting and tailoring hybrid project management methodologies in the engineering and manufacturing industries. Despite the necessary change management steps taken, several challenges impact the work, organizational culture, and team dynamics. This problem has negatively affected the team's performance, causing delays and impacting the project delivery. A possible cause of this problem is that the hybrid model selected is not tailored to that specific project's needs. According to the review of a study done by Papakadis and Tsironis (2020), projects that don't tailor their hybrid methods to their needs have a high chance of project failure. And the appropriate practices are not followed before and after adopting the hybrid approach. If we don't solve it, the adoption of hybrid methodology will fail, and the organization could fall back into the old methods. Perhaps research investigating the recommended best practices before and after adopting hybrid project management could remedy this situation.

Purpose of the Study-

The purpose of this research study is to understand the nature of hybrid methodology in engineering sector. This study can reveal the reason to choose hybrid methodology and the method to implement in engineering projects. The implementation and working practices during adoption of hybrid methodology in projects by project managers are well discussed in this study.
