Research Topic Selection Assignment
Format: The Research Topic Selection Assignment will be 750 - 1000 words using APA formatting and include a title, abstract, and reference pages (exclusive of the word requirement) with at least five (5) scholarly sources the candidate intends to use in the Final Research Paper. The Research Topic Selection paper should address the following areas and use corresponding headers to indicate where the issues are being addressed:
- Topic Overview: The candidate should choose and explain a developing issue or an issue that needs further research in the international aviation law field. While international aviation law is generally interwoven with domestic aviation law, make sure your topic is at least 50% based on non-U.S. issues. For instance, the pilot shortage or pilot retirement age could focus on addressing the issues in the U.S. but would need to reference international sources and issues for roughly half of the topic.
- Thesis: The candidate will develop a general thesis based on their chosen topic that they will address in the Final Research Paper Assignment. The thesis can adapt as additional research is conducted but there needs to at least be an initial thesis that the candidate seeks to address.
- Sources:The candidate should discuss the general types and availability of sufficient scholarly sources on the topic. The candidate needs to pick a topic with sufficient scholarly: studies, law review articles, case law, reports, and related source material for the chosen topic and final paper. The student should include at least five (5) scholarly sources in an APA formatted reference page at the end of this paper.
- Personal Interest:The candidate will describe their personal interest in this topic, why the topic appealed to them, and what, if any, fears or concerns they have about the topic. Although the topic is personal in nature, students should abide by APA formatting and not use first person.
