Examples: number of hamburgers a restaurant produces in a year, number of workshops given in a conference, number of surgeries completed in a hospital over a year. Outcomes are focused on the impact and effectiveness an organizations activities are having on lives, clients, customers, etc. Examples: nutritional effect of those hamburgers, successful teacher training from the workshops, cancer survivor rates from those surgeries. Many organizations would prefer to measure outputs because they are tangible and much easier to quantify than outcomes, which are the results that happen as a consequence of doing or producing the outputs. For lasting success and change, desired outcomes aligned with an organizations mission and culture should be defined in order to identify the outputs necessary to effectively achieve those outcomes.
