The notes taken can make or break a case. It's important that firstly the notes are clear and legible as they become a permanent record of a case, that's used to aid in the investigation. Before beginning note taking it's important it to secure your scene first than to begin your note taking. Evaluate and take note of the scene and some basic information. As well, as questioning necessary individuals on the scene - suspects, victims and witnesses. Each department works different but it's all the needed information have some similarities. It's important that all information is accurate, which is why it's important to start note taking as quick as possible. I think for some instances it's a great additive. There are some bad apples within every department, and these types of devices can help prevent actions that are hard to explain or even actions that one is having trouble to remember. Voice activated note taking can be effective too as it can aid in proving somebodies wording or even the background noise of a scene can help an ongoing investigation. As it states in the text "Some police departments use digital recorders extensively because of the definite advantage of recording exactly what was stated with no danger of misinterpreting."(Orthmann, 2017) The downfall can be... the obvious. It's technology. Videos and recording can be altered and/or deleted. The technology could be hacked and put at risk of being released, the list goes on.
