respond to a classmate whose perspective was different than yours or that raised a different question or issue than you did. How did it differ? What did it make you think about? What do you think our class approach to the use of AI through tools such as Grammarly and ChatGPT should be? make sure to explain it in a full paragraph of 250 words or more.

Classmate's perspective:

Artificial Intelligence Chatbots are tools that have the ability to respond to a prompt typed in the chat with information given. According to the article, AI chatbots are "a chatbot delivers information, explains concepts and generates ideas in simple sentences." AI chatbots use accurate and sometimes inaccurate information depending on the prompt that is given, and with the use of a bot's information sometimes being inaccurate, it could be detrimental to a student's work. Colleges and universities are concerned about AI chatbots because not only do professors and teachers have to worry about students stealing information/plagiarizing from another person without proper citation, but also with trying to figure out if a student's work is AI generated. After the pandemic, most schools and universities turned to class work being mostly online, which gives students more access to using AI. Seeing the rise of chatbots being used on assignments, middle and high schools are trying to, and some have already banned chatbots on the schools Wi-Fi network, even though they're ways around it. On the other hand, colleges and universities think banning AI would "infringe on academic freedom" the article states. Instead of banning, they switched the way things are being taught. Assignments are now being in-class rather a online assignment, instead of typing up your paper on Google Docs, it would be a handwritten paper. My stand on Artificial Intelligence is that with the newer generations being exposed to the internet at a early age, it could harm young ones on how they are being taught or how they are completing assignments. I think AI can give you a better understanding of a concept or think a different way to layout a paper, but having AI do a whole assignment should not be acceptable.

My perspective:

Like chatgpt, AI chatbots are tools that generate text based on prompts. Colleges and universities are concerned that students might use them to complete assignments, which would harm academic integrity and traditional learning. These chatbots can write essays and solve problems, raising issues of plagiarism and cheating. Relying too much on AI could prevent students from developing important skills like critical thinking and writing. In changing this, educators are adjusting their courses with more in-class work, oral exams, and group projects to reduce AI use. Schools are also updating policies to consider using AI as a form of plagiarism. Some universities are teaching students how to use AI responsibly. In my personal view, while AI has its disadvantages, I believe it can be helpful for brainstorming and understanding complex topics. For example, if a student is unsure about a particular concept, they can use ChatGPT to get clearer explanations, helping them gain a better understanding of the material. It can break complicated ideas down into simpler information, making it easier for students to understand challenging subjects. However, overusing AI for assignments can weaken students' learning and skill development. Relying on AI for tasks meant to measure personal understanding and writing is generally seen as unethical. In conclusion, AI can support learning, but it should not replace the important work of developing one's own ideas and arguments. This creates both opportunities and challenges in education, leading to changes in teaching and academic policies to protect learning integrity. While AI can be a great tool for support, students should realize what they're learning from AI gives them creative thinking, rather than copying that information off.
