Would you recommend that the operators be permanently assigned to the machines they currently operate during Hour 3? I would not recommend that operators should be permanently assigned to the machines they currently operate during hour three. I suggest that Fred works on machines 3 and 4, and during the third hour, Fred takes a short break to relieve his boredom and regain his composure. That will alleviate some noise and the many short breaks. Bonnie can work on 1 and 4 since 2 and 3 are difficult and cuts down on productivity. Mary and Tom can switch every two hours as well. What do you think would be the conquences of any changes you might recommend? I think there will be fewer consequences since there are accommodation and consideration for the operators to be more productive and increase in production.

It is not recommended to shift/shuffle operator to each machine on hourly basis, also it is not recommended to assign operator to only single machine for work as working knowledge of all machine to each and every operator is must for safe operation of produced goods. Exposure of every machine functionality to each operator helps in overcoming man hour shortage in case of emergency like absence of machine 4 operators work can be done by other operators if they know functionality of each machine for this they should work on each machine regularly for honing their skills in process operation. I might suggest for changes in shuffling of workers based on job analysis instead of 3 hours It can be performed on rotational shift basis for optimal output of the units.
