I would stay with the victim ensuring they stay awake and alive all while being aware of my surroundings. After the victim has been picked up I would ensure the scene is kept secured. Ensuring a perimeter around the scene is set so no one enters who isn't allowed to at the same time ensuring any evidence is not tampered with. With help of my fellow officers I would ask anyone that was on the scene when I arrived to stay and ask questions about what happened to understand how the victim was hurt. No one is to leave the scene as the person trying to flee could be a suspect. All evidence is to be handled properly and not moved or touched until proper precaution is taken, especially the knife because blood spatter analysts could see where the weapon was dropped to understand how the victim was attacked. Any blood stains on the ground will also be secured by marking where the blood is. Everything at this point needs to be documented including start to finish of the scene. It is important to know this to see if any evidence was tampered with during the investigation.
