respond to this article including intext citation and current references. I am a night shift nurse at a medium sized hospital. We have an information technology (IT) department that manages our facility access, but they do not work night shift. We do have one IT staff member overnight for emergencies, but they are only able to fix basic things. This means that any improvements, suggestions, or workarounds are not able to be completed with night shift staff. We are not able to participate actively in this process, and any changes that are made are passed to us secondhand. We don't get the opportunity to ask questions to the subject matter experts, of provide feedback. This could be remedied by having more IT staff on night shift. If the facility sees this as not feasible, at least have biweekly or monthly check ins with night shift- have some staff stay late or come in early to interact with us. This would facilitate interaction with those that implement the systems and those that use the systems. Overnight we run into issues with little support staff, so it would be nice to have them in house for a change. Being able to work on issues together would help all employees by adding insight and experience to the product improvement process. Our IT department is missing out on the input of a large percentage of staff, and we could make significant improvements together if we are included.
