Respond to this post (how to respond is below):

Measuring internal communication is important for the business as better communication can help foster more employee engagement/motivation, better collaborations, working in line with company vision/goals and improved production. Some reasons that a company may put metrics in place is there has been a decrease in productivity, high turnover or discontent seen from employees. Also, if there are major changes within the company then it would be in their best interest to examine communication within the company. They need to be assured that the communication is being engaged with, easily understood, and received in a manner that promotes positive employee engagement. They could look at productivity, use surveys/polls, look at engagement/response.

Some similarities that could be seen with external as with internal would be that the company would want to make sure that the external communications were being engaged with the target audience, that it is clear and concise, and that it encourages positive engagement with the customers. The metrics being examined would be different for this; they could still use engagement with content, surveys/polls, but also sales is a possible metric to see if the message is effective.

It is important for businesses to consider the environment when examining metrics because not all companies can use the same metrics.Businesses are unique and have different purposes, goals, visions, and benchmarks for success, and these need to be kept in mind when examining any metrics. The business would need to examine and define what it is they would like to measure; they need to know the specific needs they are trying to address so that they can make a plan catered to this.
