Respond to this write up - For this week's discussion, I chose to review the video "Algebra Basics: What Are Functions" by Math Antics. I picked this video in particular because this is an idea that I specifically remember struggling with during my high school years. The "f(x)" portion of functions really confused me and I would regularly see it as two variables multiplied by each other. The teacher in the video did a great job of breaking down what functions are used for, the parts that functions are composed of, and how to determine if an equation qualifies as a function. By breaking down the function into its parts of inputs (domains) and outputs (range) I was able to easily understand the purpose of the pieces in the equation. Using a table, he showed that each input had one output and that if an input had multiple outputs, the equation was not a function. The vertical line test that he used during the lesson gave me a great visual of that rule and helped to further my understanding of functions.
