respond two April & Rebekah's post separately April's Thread: 14th Amendment The 14th Amendment is very important when it comes to the US Constitution. The 14th amendment granted citizenship to all persons born in the United States in 1866 including slaves brought from other countries. The Amendment was to provide equal protection of the law and gave rights to all citizens to vote. The whole point was everyman or woman is equal under eyes of the law and should be treated the same. It was not until 1964 during the civil right movement, African Americans were given the right to vote and voting act was approved in 1965. If the US Constitution stated that every person should be treated equally under eyes of the law, and we follow the constitution our criminal justice system granted every individual alienable right, then the 14th Amendment was not practice in our judicial system and the system was biased. Africans Americans have not be treated the same and the constitution contradict itself because there has not been any equal protection under law for negros since the constitution was written. Having but a group of people who housed slaves in seats, senate, congress etc. How did the system supposed to work as equal protection when that group beat, chained and rape and condoned slavery. Those who condoned should have been held accountable, but instead they wrote and held seats and amendment parts of the constitution to fit their bias opinion of a certain group of people. The king should not have render justice to either woman. The first woman child should not have been a sacrifice because one woman wrong during and the king should not have been the deciding factor. Having different races, genders and religions, and those who don't always agree in seats to disagree to agree within eyes of the law like a jury to look all aspect of law as well as judges that are not bias or racist and uses the constitution as a guideline to render justice for all people born and become US citizens is how we control our actions in the justice system and to treat people fairly. I don't honestly believe Biblical has anything to do with rendering justice, if you look at the constitution and declaration of independence why was its years later rights were granted after those were written negros for fought for rights and are still fighting. The bible speaks of everyman created equal. When was every man equal and for what race was the constitution written for? United States Senate (2024, January 1). National Archives. www.archives.gov Rebekah's thread: Question 1. Personally, I believe that the Fourteenth Amendment is done appropriately. It seems that there is a new media report every day about the misuse of this amendment. There are reports of people not being granted their right to due process. Although media is a good resource for most things, what people also fail to realize is that some cases are not shown to the full extent. Solving cases can become problematic due to this. Question 2. I believe that most cases are handled appropriately and professionally. I wish that I could say all of them are but we are human. In some cases, there are known biases. For example, in Plessy v. Ferguson, black and white residents were required to ride in separate train cars. This well-known case shows that Homer Adolph Plessy was similarly situated to the other people on the train regardless of skin color. NCC Staff (2020) stated, "Plessy argued that the Louisiana statute violated the 13th and 14th Amendments by treating black Americans as inferior to whites." Question 3. I believe that we are all in control of our own actions. The only thing we truly have control of is our actions and the way that we react. All actions have consequences, good or bad. I think the only way for people to grow is through their lessons. Failure only exists if you make that your final stopping point. In order to grow, you have to be able to hold yourself accountable for all of your actions. To be in a place of power and judgment, you must be wise and not foolish. James 1:5 says, "Now if any of you lacks wisdom he should ask God-who gives to all generously and ungrudgingly-and it will be given to him." I believe this scripture is a great reference to 1 Kings 3:16-28. If the king was not wise, he would not have had enough discernment to see which woman was truly the mother and which wasn't. Question 4. I believe that I possess a Biblical worldview to an extent. There are some things that I am learning as I read the Bible more. Growing up Christian has shaped a lot of my beliefs but as I have gotten older, and gained a deeper understanding of the Bible it has become easier. God is still working in, on, and through me. I have never fully read the Bible and I started the 365-day Bible challenge at the beginning of this year. Being on day 148, I can see the change in my heart and mind. My goal is to lead and show a life that exemplifies Jesus and glorifies God. Dilemma. This is a tough situation but I believe that I would have the plane destroyed. As much as that would hurt me and I would want to save all people, it is not realistic to do so. I know that this would weigh heavy on my heart. I also know that there would be consequences for my actions and decisions by the public, my personal life, and most importantly God. I cannot please all of mankind but I would ask God for forgiveness because His opinion and view matters most to me. NCC Staff. (2020, July 9). 10 Supreme Court cases about the 14th amendment.
