Response for this: A successful cyber$-$attack by North Korea on South Korean shipbuilding companies was launched in August and September of $2023.$ "Multiple employees and contractors in the maritime industry" received the emails $($Dobberstein$,2023,$ p$\mathrm{.}3).$ There is no information about the type of data compromised or which companies were affected. Nevertheless, North Korea previously compromised naval design secrets including nuclear$-$powered submarines through cyber$-$attacks in $2016$ and $2021($Chakravarti$,2023)$ against Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering.$$

According to Dobberstein and Kobara, the attacks came amid Kim Jong Un's call to strengthen North Korea's naval power. As of January $2023,$ North Korean hacking groups have also been responsible for multiple cyber$-$attacks against Brazil, Czech Republic, Finland, Italy, Norway, and Poland $($Chakravarti$,2023).$

In order to protect their data, shipbuilders must conduct independent security audits $($Chakravarti$,2022).$
