The difficulties women face attaining international assignments tend to come from legacy based biases that reflect that women would encounter challenges due to cultural equality issues, may not be treated with the same respect their male counterparts receive, that women may tend to become affected by perceived isolation issues from the assignment, and that male counterparts still fear stereotypes that could place women at a disadvantage (Geringer et al., 2023). Although the research provided by Professor Nancy Adler debunked many of these issues from an international assignment perspective, it is evident that some of them still exist. In fact, there are still large pay gap issues that exist that may hold women back from taken these assignments, as well as issues with antiquated regulations, laws, and policies in many countries that place women at disadvantage from a business perspective due to cultural and legal restraints that prevent them from entering the business market globally (World Bank, 2023). Many cultures view women as homemakers and care givers and do not afford them the same respect as men when they try and enter the global business market. However, women bring a lot of advantages to the international business front and can make a difference as leaders and managers from a diversity, innovation, and consumer value perspective while also being considered as a very professional, empathetic, character building, conflict resolving, and extremely team-oriented group of leaders (Amar, 2023). From my own personal military experience working with women, they tend to be very skilled, technical, energetic, supportive, timely, and passionate business professionals who seek to prove that they are more capable of the difficult tasks than men. Their work ethic, dedication, and ability to communicate in times of urgency, with a calm and respectful demeanor always shines through. It is imperative that businesses give women more opportunities to succeed and excel in the international environment by removing known female biases, show the benefits of women in leadership roles, and work hard to remove pay discrepancies that make international assignments more enticing for men than women (Geringer et al., 2023). Cultural biases that exist with women in business will need leaders who are willing to adapt rules and regulations that allow women more opportunities in trade, while also highlighting the importance of women from a diversity and growth perspective.
