Classmate 1:
After reviewing this week's material on small-group communication, I've realized how important active listening, collaboration, and clear role definition are when working in any team setting. These concepts are very applicable to both academic group projects and professional environments. I can already see how I could improve the way I contribute to group discussions by being more intentional about giving others space to speak and encouraging balanced participation.
Some of the key elements that stood out to me include open communication, shared goals, trust, and accountability. When a group has a clear sense of purpose and mutual respect, it becomes much easier to work through disagreements and stay productive.
Two strengths I bring to a professional group environment are that I'm dependable and solution-oriented. I take deadlines seriously, and I try to focus on finding practical ways to move the team forward when challenges come up. On the other hand, two weaknesses I need to work on are being more vocal with my ideas and not overthinking my contributions. Sometimes I hesitate to speak up, especially if I'm unsure about how my input will be received. Building confidence and trusting my voice more in group settings are areas I want to keep improving.
Classmate 2:
Some ways I believe I can apply small group communication to my daily life are through work, professional relationships and personal ones. Some key aspects of small group communication I can apply are being an active listener, help guide conversations and theory crafting so everyone is heard, and their ideas can be acknowledged, communicate intent and ideas clearly, and recognize the value of having different opinions and help mediate situations where ideas and opinions clash. Two things I believe I am strong in when it comes to small group communication are ensuring everyone is heard and being an active listener. Somethings I could do better are taking an initial leadership role and dealing with a dominating personality early on. I tend to not seek leadership roles right away because I can be nervous at times if I don't know the individuals in my group, this also applies to the dominating personality. It can take me a few group meetings before I settle in but sometimes that can be too late to help guide or have an impactful voice if no one else is making sure everyone is heard.
