Instructions

Creating an outline is a crucial part of the prewriting process. It is meant to serve as a guide during the drafting stage, so its content should be easily accessible to the eye. Therefore, avoid full sentences and too many details. In the upcoming module, you will write a draft based on the current event article you chose using the outline you create for this activity.

Activity

The outline should include:

Introduction

• Establish the work and its author
• Establish the thesis of the article
• Present your thesis: 1 sentence that states the overall success of the article's/speech's argument and names the three appeals

Summary Paragraph

• Present the main point of the article
• Present the main supportive points of the article

Analysis Paragraph 1 (ethos)

• Topic Sentence: State your first analysis point
• Support your point with evidence from the article
• Summary Sentence: Conclude your point

Analysis Paragraph 2 (pathos)

• Topic Sentence: State your second analysis point
• Support your point with evidence from the article
• Summary Sentence: Conclude your point

Analysis Paragraph 3 (logos)

• Topic Sentence: State your third analysis point
• Support your point with evidence from the article
• Summary Sentence: Conclude your point

Concluding Paragraph

• Reword your thesis
• Summarize your main points
• Leave on a thoughtful concluding sentence

Each section's content should be written as concisely and precisely as possible. Proper grammar should be used, but the outline does not need to include complete sentences.
