Roberta despised modern architecture. Therefore, she decided to burn down Sam's "modern" residence. Sam was inside, as Roberta knew. Roberta also knew that there was a very good chance Sam would die in the ensuing fire. Therefore, Roberta tossed salt over her left shoulder immediately before she torched the residence. Roberta was genuinely convinced that this would protect Sam from all harm. Much to her surprise, Sam was burned to death in the fire.
