Scientific Method: Data Tables and Graphs A. Data tables Data are information or experimental values that are collected. We will be collecting data (singular: datum) by doing experiments. Follow the guidelines below for creating a data table: 1. Number and title each table created. Tables in a scientific report are sequentially (i.e., 1, 2, etc.) numbered and are given a title that describes the contents of the table and includes the independent and dependent variables. The independent variable is the factor that is being manipulated by the investigator to determine how it affects the dependent variable in an experiment. The dependent variable, also known as the outcome variable, is the variable that is being measured. The number and title should be at the top of the table. 2. List the dependent and independent variables in your table. Include the units of measurement that were used in the experiment.
