SECTION 1 - All questions are compulsory - ANSWER ALL QUESTIONS - QUESTION 1 At an executive meeting this morning, Martin Corbin, the Director of Innovation and New Projects (INP), at Caribbean Souvenirs Inc. (CSI), was told that cash flow problems have forced CSI to decrease product development activities. This means that two (2) of the eight (8) new products currently being developed, by Caribbean Souvenirs Inc., must be immediately terminated, along with the employees working on those new product project teams (i.e. about 25% of employees in his department). Mr. Corbin has a good knowledge of these projects and he is aware of the performance and seniority of employees who work in the INP department. Some of the current projects have a high probability of success, but the long-term potential of a few of them is unknown. Using your knowledge of the theory of employee involvement, comprehensively discuss the preferred optimum level of employee involvement by contemporary organisations (like CSI), given the challenges which the company (CSI) is currently facing. In addition, your discussion should also include an evaluation of the relevant mediating factors which may influence employee involvement at CSI. (Justify your answers AND include examples where appropriate.) (Question 1 - MARKS -20)
