SECTION B
USE THIS INFORMATION TO ANSWER ALL QUESTIONS IN THIS SECTION
A small four-story building is shown in Figures 4 and 5, with a typical floor plan (Figure 4) and a typical section (Figure 5). The imposed load on the slab is 4kNm2, and the finishes weigh 1.5kNm2. The beams' overall sizes are indicated on the drawing (in mm), and the slab thickness is 175mm. The columns' dimensions are 400400mm for all levels, with a story height of 3m for each floor. The characteristic strength of the concrete is 30Nmm2, while the steel reinforcement strength is 500Nmm2. The cover for all reinforcement, except for the foundation, is assumed to be 30mm. For foundation design, assume a cover of 50mm and a soil bearing capacity of 200kNm2. For slab design, use 12mm diameter bars, 20mm for beams, 25mm for columns, and 16mm for foundation footings. For stirrups, use 10mm throughout where required. If any design parameters are not specified, make reasonable assumptions in your design. Use the Chart in Figure 6 to design the columns.
