Section II, Part E Identify the data analysis methods used and explain why the methods are appropriate based on the research question.

In this research, the method used to gather information was a single page questionnaire. This questionnaire included a Karolinska Sleepiness Scale (KSS) which helped provide feedback from the nurses naps. Some of the information that was gathered included timing and duration of the nurses naps, their sleepiness level immediately before the nap, as well as sleep inertia upon arising, and the overall helpfulness of the nap that was taken. The KSS used an ordinal scale that ranged from 1 to 9. 1 represented the nurses were extremely alert while 9 represented the nurses were very sleepy and found it hard to stay awake. Data was described based on the level of measurement. Graphs were also produces to display the relative proportions of variables. I believe this research method is appropriate to the research question "How long should naps be?". I believe this because the questionnaire provides feedback from the nurses about the naps they took which helps them determine if naps should be longer or shorter.

Section IV, Part B Discuss the advantages and disadvantages of the type of statistical analysis used. Support your discussion with examples from the study.

The advantages of this type of statistical analysis that was used is the fact that it was only a single page questionnaire form. This allows the feedback from the nurses to be fairly quick and straight forward with no confusion. Also, with the KSS allowing the nurses to rate their level of sleepiness between 1 and 9 helps as well. I believe a disadvantage this research had was the fact that the naps were assessed from the nurses independently. Also, by not gathering more information from the nurses, such as identity and what that individual is like or the kind of lifestyle they live, puts it at a disadvantage as well. Some nurses may live a busier lifestyle than others which makes them more prone to becoming sleepy. Another disadvantage was the population the researchers used which was only six units from two hospitals.
