Select a news article dated within the previous two months and analyze the issue using the economic
Question:
Select a news article dated within the previous two months and analyze the issue using the economic concepts and theory learned in this class. Include at least one graph developed in our course.
Possible concepts include:
- demand, supply, and equilibrium price of a particular product
- elasticity on a particular product
- perfect competition and imperfect competition, such as monopolies
- another topic selected by you
The article can cover any topic (or topics) covered in the course. Looking for and choosing the article is an important aspect of this assignment, and should not be overlooked.
Requirements:
1) Choice of article must be approved. Post your request for approval in the discussion area. The article may not be from any of the links in the LEO classroom. No duplications will be allowed -- each student must work on a different article.
2) Length 2-3 pages. (Cover page and bibliography required -- not included in the page count.)
The paper will consist of four parts --
1) Summary of the key points in the article.
2) Explanation of how the article "fits" into the field of microeconomics. (As part of your explanation, link the article to a specific section or sections in the text.)
3) Presentation and explanation of relevant graph. You cannot just “cut and paste” a graph from the text or other source (or from your article itself). You must prepare your own graph. It is important to clearly state what variables are shown on each axis, and to clearly identify the order of magnitude (thousands, millions, etc.).
4) Summary, conclusion, and your key “take-away(s)” from using economics to analyze your article.
For purposes of this paper, "within the last two months" will mean “this year” -- so the publication date must be in 2015.
Minimum number of references -- 2. Your textbook will be one reference. Your article will be the second.
Bibliography and in-text citations should follow proper APA format.
Note: You are expected to paraphrase, using quotes only when the source’s verbatim statements uniquely enhance meaning and understanding. Deductions will be taken when quotes are overused and found to be unnecessary.
