Select a project from your working environment to which you can apply the study material of the module. Select a project that might seem to be too complex rather than one that might be too small as any large project can be broken down into smaller parts. The project should comprise of a substantial set of sub-deliverables and should be completed over a couple of months and more. The project should be real, and one where you are personally involved in. The projects should be one of which the deliverables should still be produced and completed in the future. Your Individual Assignment should be a typed or well written document that must include the following elements:
No Description Weight
Background: A background of the project with specific emphasis on the objectives and main deliverable
Product Breakdown: A breakdown of the project's main specialist deliverable into a more detailed set of sub-deliverables that will typically be configured and kept under change control through the use of baselines. The PBS should have at least three levels indicating a product identification number for each deliverable. If deliverables are produced through different states, these states should also be indicated in the PBS. (Product State: A particular condition of a deliverable at a specific point in time)
Milestone Schedule: Provide a milestone schedule for the indicated deliverables of the previous question. A milestone schedule is a tabular or graphical indication of the important dates when deliverables, or different states of deliverables must be completed. Indicate on the schedule which of the deliverables will be used to develop the detailed product descriptions.
Product Descriptions: Develop a detailed product description for any three of the specialist deliverables. The product description should include the deliverable's specification, quality criteria, quality tolerances, quality methods and the quality skills and responsibilities. There should be distinct differences and variance between deliverables chosen and they should not be three of the same type of deliverables, e.g. conceptual design, preliminary design and detail design.
Quality Register: Create a quality register and list summary details of the selected deliverables and their quality criteria including responsibilities and important dates.
Quality Record: Create a quality record that can be used to verify, approve or accept one of the deliverables.
Flow Diagram or Process Map: Assume one of the deliverables did not pass the first test or verification inspection. Draw a flow diagram or process model of the specialist or technical process that produced the deliverable.
Root Causes: Evaluate each step of the specialist process model and identify possible root causes for the failure indicated by the first test or verification inspection. Make use of a cause-and-effect diagram to identify possible root causes.
Improvement Proposal: Prioritise the possible root causes and propose a process improvement initiative to prevent the same failure to happen in future. Be specific and provide substantial details of the improvement proposal. (What, why, how, who, when and where)
