Between 1883 and 1916, William Frederick 'Buffalo Bill' Cody's Wild West shows spread a glorified image of the American West--cowboys, Rough Riders, and Plains Indians--across the United States and Europe. At a time when American Indians were restricted from practicing their religions and traditional cultures, Cody's show provided an outlet for their fervor.
