SET TASK

1. Find two different job advertisements in the newspaper employment section, or from other sources. Choose advertisements that provide detailed information about the position, and try to choose jobs that you know a little about.

Plan a job interview for each of the advertised positions that would enable you to select the best possible candidate. Include clearly stated selection criteria. If possible, discuss the positions with someone with previous experience in recruitment, supervision or management, to get their ideas for selection criteria. Take notes of their thoughts and opinions.

2. For one of the advertised positions, carry out and record a practice interview. Find a friend or family member who is willing to role play the applicant. Prepare a list of key questions you would ask to help you how well the person meets the criteria. Conduct and record the interview on audio tape or video tape.

When completed, have the interviewee list what you did well, and what you need to improve.
