Share your comments on the following post: While many states are right-to-work states, Illinois has yet to pass this law. Without this law, there are union contracts that can require workers to either join the union or pay dues ("Illinois Approves", 2019). There are benefits to this law, while also disadvantages. A benefit of being a right-to-work state would be that workers do not feel obligated to join a union. Workers do not have to select whether to pay dues or join a union. They can simply work. Being a right-to-work state means that a state is neither union or anti-union (Right to Work, n.d.). One criticism of this law is that it makes things difficult for workers to actually try and form unions and delegate for higher wages, better benefits and more. Some corporations are discouraging the forming of unions as it is very difficult to communicate with a middleman delegating for the employee. Rodriguez (2018) described how workers who were obligated to pay union dues affected their inability to have economic growth, therefore inhibiting their freedom.
