Simple Pendulum Names: ____________________________________ Introduction: A simple pendulum consists of a small mass hanging from a string of negligible mass, which is made to go back and forth from the lowest (equilibrium) position. It is the most basic example of a periodical motion, that is, a motion that repeats itself over time. In other words, after a period the pendulum bob returns to its initial position (and then performs a new oscillation, and so on). Ideally, this motion goes on forever, but in reality it ends after a while [why?]. Note: In order to have a good simple pendulum, do not raise the bob more than 1/10 of the length of the string (for example, if the length is 60 cm, do not raise it more than 6 cm). Goal: We want to determine the different pendulum parameters that could affect its period and determine their influence.
