Since then, the research on productivity has started to recognize the effects of issues outside of the workplace. Guy (1993) looked at the various issues females face in their workplace productivity based on their traditional family obligations. Almost 20 years later, Ponzo et al. (2022) discuss how menstrual cycles and health affect productivity, as well as the need for employers to recognize this and provide better support for their employees. More recently, researchers and organizations have started to recognize how mental health affects productivity for employees and their co-workers (APA, 2023; Trivedi et al., 2013)
