Question:
Sketch a university ontology, which covers the items listed below in part (a) and provides sufficient classes, properties and individuals for part (b). (a) Indicate hierarchies for both classes and properties. For classes, indicate clearly which are self-standing, which are definable, and which are modifiers. Introduce instances of classes if required. Items to be represented: MSc Programme, Professor, Dean, Academic Staff, Department, College, Computer Science, Organizational Psychology, Data Science, Staff, Room, Programming, Librarian.
(b) Define classes, using your ontology, for the items below in the OWL or Description Logic syntax (or explain why they cannot be expressed in OWL): – Head of Department, that is, a member of academic staff who is in charge of a Department. (3 marks) – Postdoctoral researcher, that is, a non-academic researcher who has been awarded a PhD degree and who works on a funded project. (4 marks) – Module taught by a female Professor or a male Senior Lecturer in room 151. (5 marks) If the definition in English is ambiguous, paraphrase it so it is unambiguous and then express the disambiguated notion in OWL.
(c) For the properties in the ontology designed in part (a), define in the OWL or Description Logic syntax their domains and ranges, their inverses if required, and indicate whether they are (ir)reflexive, (a)symmetric, functional, inverse functional or transitive.
