Solid$-$State Drives $($SSDs$)$ use flash storage to hold data and have no moving parts. When used in hard drives, the hard drive is not subject to the mechanical failures that traditional magnetic hard drives are, SSD hard drives are resistant to shock and vibration. Currently, a SSD hard drive typically has less storage capacity than a magnetic hard drive, but that is quickly changing.
