SOLVE 3 USING INFO FROM 1 AND 2
3.)(25 points). For the cogeneration plan discussed in problems 1 and 2. Right after the boiler, the water is a
superheated fluid at 7 MPa and 500^(@)C. After the condenser the water is at 50 kPa and it is saturated liquid.
After the heat exchanger, the water is also a saturated liquid but at 500 kPa . Take mass flow rate out of the
boiler as 15kg//s and z=0.2 and y=0.3.
a. Sketch the process on a T-S diagram using the N states you identified in problem 1 and the
relationships you identified in problem 2.(Label the states with the numbers, and show arrows for the
direction of feedwater flow.)
b. Determine:
i. The amount of work that can be extracted from the turbine.
ii. Determine the amount of work required for pumps I and II.
iii. Determine the amount of heat extracted in the process heat exchanger/mixer.
iv. Determine the amount of heat removed in the condenser
v. Determine the amount of heat required at the boiler.
