Question NO.3 Isuzu Motors Ltd. Recently started its assembly operations in Pakistan. It imports all of its parts from Japan but looking at the local labour market it started producing Cam (Timing) Chains of its cars in Pakistan. Initially it started producing these chains in the form of 2000 nos per batch, however, looking for its increase to 3000 nos per batch in future if required. Due to local holidays and Japanese calendar holidays Isuzu only assemble cars for 250 days annually but employees receive the wages for full 365 days. Due to batch production of Cam chains Isuzu managed to assemble 300 cars in one day and produce 800 cam chains per day. Now General Manager was calculating its total and average inventory after two days as there was nothing in the stock at the moment. Also, GM was interested to know production of annual number of batches of cam chains. The biggest challenge in front of GM was to use this labor to produce engine foundation plates which require 4 days including setup time (setup time of making a batch of cam chains is half day) to complete. In seven days, Manager noticed that the mean demand of this Mighty burger, if distribution is considered as normal, alone was 21 with a standard deviation of 3.5 burgers. As JJ opens seven days a week and try to cater mainly students of all sorts. JJ tried a lot to reduce its lead time from 2 days to one day but at the moment it failed to do so. Calculate ROP according to the set service level. Also find out supply in day on hand at ROP, assuming average demand. Calculate the order size for 90 percent service level that has order interval of ten days and a supply of 8 burgers on hand at the time of order. Use fixed interval model instead of ROP model. Also inform about the probability of facing a stockout before the order arrive. (15) 2
