Respond to what they said agree or disagree in a statement
As I get older, I contemplate all the time what technology is going to do next. When will I have a robot to drive me to work so I can enjoy the drive? Who will do the dishes and clean the house so I can stop feeling lazy when I let my chores pile up.
There are many benefits to robots in our world, but there are many negatives. If the robots take over, will we all be like the humans in Wall-E?
Benefits
They make our lives easier because they do some work for us. I love my lawn mowing robot. It is not super smart, but it gives me back two hours every weekend. Now I need a robot snow blower for the other 6 months of the year!
They do not complain about working, not matter the hazard. When the Fukishima Nuclear Plant in Japan was damaged several years back, the risk to humans to evaluate the level of hazard was too much. Using robots to do some of those tasks has saved untold numbers of lives so humans do not have to go in.
Negatives
They are only as smart as the programmer who designed their CPU. If that person has ill intent during the design process, then there could be consequences. Having a cognizant robot in our home would allow that programmer (or their boss') to learn so much about every one of us
They have no emotions or conscience. They do what that programmer has told them to do.
They remove jobs from others. When the major car manufactures brought in those robots, they touted a benefit in cost savings. Unfortunately, those new cars and truck still cost a lot of money, and the cost goes up every year. Jobs are lost, so the only net gain is the benefit to the manufacturer, not the community or the consumer.
I look forward to robots being more involved in my life, but I have limitations. I am not sure I would want to have surgery by a robot, but if an exoskeleton can help me with my daily duties (think Iron Man), I could definitely find value in that.
