South Africa has experienced energy crisis in the past few years. This has led to the many rounds of excessive loadshedding and the Central University of Technology is concerned about the effects of these loadshedding on teaching and learning. To address this problem, a number of possible projects were identified and subjected to a rigorous selection system based on quantitative and qualitative measures. The selection committee settled for a procurement and provision of generators for a number of buildings in the Bloemfontein campus.
