STAR model requires the students to take a structured approach to reflect on 'Primary Experience' - personal, professional or social experience. Factor in the pandemic times which has had an impact on Teams & Leadership

It has proved to be effective in courses such as leadership, Human Resource Management, Organisational Behaviour, Change Management, Team Management, Ethics etc. as an effective pedagogical tool.

The students are required to use the STAR model as follows:

S - Story

T - Theory

A - Analysis

R - Reflection

  1. Story - Describe a 'Primary' personal, social or a professional experience in the form of a story. The story should have four sections including good opening, a build-up of crisis/situation, the actual crisis/situation & conclusion. You are expected to address the following in the above four sections.
    • Describe the situation
    • Describe who was involved
    • Describe where the situation took place
    • Describe when it happened and what was going on.
    • Describe your thoughts and feeling.
    • Describe what you did. Describe what others did.
    • Describe what were the immediate outcomes, medium-term and long-term outcomes if any.

  1. Theory- Among the following theories listed below, you may use any two theories relevant to your story:

Johari Window; MBTI; Bruce Tuckman's Stages of Team development, psychological safety, Leadership models & theories, Group dynamics, Learning from the Simulation (asymmetrical information, goals, decision making challenges), HBR's 10 Must reads on teams

  • Give an overview of the theory in about 4 lines and then....
  • A clear synopsis of the theory so that even a person with no knowledge of it can understand it.

  1. Analysis - Critically analyse the story presented in section 1 using the theories presented in section 2.

  • Explain how and where the chosen theories are applicable in your story.
  • Explain how the actions of the people in the story could be related to the theories presented above.

  1. Reflection - Present a reflection of the situation.
    • Explain your major learning's from the situation.
    • Explain what worked well in the above situation and why?
    • Explain what could have been done better in the above situation and why?
    • What are some of the strengths that people (including you) have exhibited and explain how organisation can benefit from their strengths.
    • What are some of the weaknesses that people (including you) have exhibited and explain how organisation can overcome their weaknesses
    • Explain how you would handle if you come across similar situation in future?
