Stat 210 sec61 Case study 2 Due date: Sunday, May 7 The tensile strength (in pounds per square inch) of various types of asphaltic concrete is being investigated. There are two aggregate types (the material it is made of) and four compaction types (how it is prepared). One of the compaction types is to just leave it static; the other three are levels of kneading. It is thought that Basalt aggregate makes a stronger concrete than the Siliceous aggregate. It is thought that there may be a difference in the effect of switching from Basalt to Siliceous when the compaction method is Static vs. when the compaction method is one of the Kneading methods. Finally, it is desired to determine what the most effective method is when the Regular Kneading is not an option. Experiment and Data The data have been collected on the tensile strength (in pounds per square inch) of various types of asphaltic concrete under the two factors of compaction (Static, regular kneading, low kneading and very low kneading) and aggregate type (Basalt and Siliceous). For each of the 8 combinations, three samples have been collected and the tensile strength is measured. Assignment -Is there any difference in the tensile strength regarding the aggregate type? -Is there any difference in the tensile strength regarding compaction? -Investigate the effect of the aggregate types and compaction types on the tensile strength of asphaltic concrete. It is desired to identify the best method to prepare such concrete. -Make recommendations regarding your findings. Write two pages executive report that summarizes your findings You should consider the following instructions when answering the case study question and preparing your report: I) For testing hypothesis: State the null and alternative hypotheses. Report the P-value and the test statistic. Make a conclusion statement in the words of the original problem. II) For the report Should be typed. On the first page, write the names, student numbers, and section number. All pages must be stapled together. Show all of your work. The report should have the following item # Title # Introduction # Main text # Conclusions and Recommendations
